The
NEXT 2005
Protocol for the Survey of Computed Tomography has been
published as an official CRCPD publication (CRCPD Publication
E-08-2). This document contains the survey procedures
developed to collect information for a population-representative
reference database documenting general CT practice and indicators of
patient dose, and characterizing the impact of new technologies and
clinical applications. The NEXT CT body phantom must be used with
this survey protocol in order to compare acquired CT radiation data
with existing NEXT survey results. For the document, Acrobat
7.0 or higher is required. Also available as part of this
document:
CT Facility Questionnaire.xls
and CT Survey Form.xls.

States that License Medical Physicists - This is an interactive
map, developed through a collaborative effort between AAPM and CRCPD,
designed to be a one-stop-shop for the membership and the public to
find information on individual state’s requirements for licensure or
registration of medical physicists. AAPM and the CRCPD will
continually modify the map as new information becomes available.

Scenarios
The HS/ER-3 Task Force has compiled scenarios addressing
radiological incidents that include nuclear detonation,
radiological dispersal devices, and transportation accidents.
These scenarios are intended for use by State/local radiation
control programs. They can be used as a template to develop
or customize a radiological scenario for a drill or exercise.

Awards Program |
|
The awards program has been further
expanded, to include the
Radon Hero Award.
The CRCPD recognizes that exposure to indoor radon is a significant
contributor to total radiation exposure received by the public and
is the second leading cause of lung cancer. This award, entitled
Radon Hero, is to recognize an individual who has demonstrated
leadership in reducing the health effects of radon exposure. The
award will be given based on the individual’s contribution to this
effort, on their breadth and scope of services, and commitment to
sustained radon risk reduction.

|
Awards Program |
|
The Board has created a new award:
the Public
Servant Award.
The award is to recognize a federal, state or local government official (other than a
state or local radiation control program director) who has made significant
contributions in support of state radiation control programs and/or the
public in achieving a better understanding of, and protection from,
radiation exposure. The award also
is given in
memory of those public servants who contributed in an outstanding way to the
support of state radiation control programs and the protection of people and
their environment. [Posted

A Safer Way Out
The Responsible Management of Tritium Exit Signs
In
response to the lack of awareness about the safe handling and
disposal of tritium exit signs, EPA has developed an on-line
training course directed toward facility owners, management, and
maintenance personnel. It contains easy-to-follow, step-by-step
guidelines on using and disposing of tritium exit signs, as well as
rationale for why proper use and disposal is so important.
To access the training online, go to
http://www.trainex.org and
search for “Tritium Exit Signs, responsible management.”

SCATR Program-
Main Menu Item |
|
The
SCATR Program
is an initiative to reduce the number of unused
sources stored by licensees. CRCPD is working with the Los
Alamos National Lab (LANL) and the Department of Energy's National
Nuclear Security Administration for disposition of these sources that
could be used for malicious intent. This new web page describes
the SCATR Program, explains what material is eligible for SCATR
Program assistance, and identifies steps that need to be taken.

National Resource Framework (NRF) Resource Center.
The purpose of the NRF
is to establish a comprehensive, national, all-hazards approach to
domestic incident response. The Framework presents an overview
of key response principles, roles and structures that guide the
national response. It describes how communities, States, the Federal
Government and private-sector and nongovernmental partners apply
these principles for a coordinated, effective national response.
